The Manly Guide to Skincare: The Secret to a Smooth and Confident Look

Man skin care may have been considered a foreign concept in the past, but more and more men are recognizing its importance and the market for men’s skincare products is growing. Although men’s skin is different from women’s, the basic principles of skincare remain the same.

Cleansing is the first step in man skin care.

It’s recommended to use water-soluble cleansers to remove dirt, grease, and pollutants from the skin, preventing pore clogging. Oily skin is common in men, so cleansing is a crucial aspect of man skin care. Cleansing should be done at least once a day, and even better if it’s done twice a day. Avoid using soap on the face.

Shaving is a big part of man skin care.

Shaving foam, gel, cream and aftershave lotion are essential man skin care products. Proper selection of shaving equipment and products is important for good man skin care. Consider your skin type when choosing shaving products, since the degree of oiliness varies from person to person. Avoid alcohol-based aftershaves and use good quality razors. Swivel-head razors are preferred as they tend to reduce cuts. Be gentle when shaving, avoid scratching the razor against your skin and use a soft, smooth action.
Male skin is thicker and oilier, but regular shaving can cause it to become dehydrated. Moisturizers are an important part of man skin care. Use moisturizing gel or cream after shaving. Some shaving foams/gels have built-in moisturizing effects. Gently pat and massage moisturizer over the face using upward strokes.

Slip, Slop, Slap: Protect Your Skin with Sunscreen

Although men’s skin is less susceptible to skin cancer caused by UV radiation, using sunscreen is still an important aspect of man skin care. You can use a moisturizer that combines sunscreen with moisturizing effects.
Another option for man skin care is to use products with natural ingredients such as aloe vera, sea salt, and coconut. Naturally antiseptic oils like lavender and tea tree oil also provide good means for man skin care.

Check yourself before you wreck yourself! Keep an eye out for any new spots or moles that itch, bleed, or change color as they could be early warning signs of skin cancer. Don’t wait, make an appointment to see a dermatologist if you notice anything suspicious. Men over 50, pay extra attention, you’re at a higher risk of developing melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer. But don’t worry, early detection is key, and skin cancer is highly treatable.

Man skin care is not as difficult as some men may think. It only takes a few minutes a day to maintain healthy skin.
